ADMISSIONS TESTS AND ENTRANCE EXAMS
Whether your interest lies in the prep school arena, or you lean towards traditional Catholic schooling, there's more to it than just showing up one day for class.Almost without exception, private independent schools ("preps") require prospective students to undergo an extensive and comprehensive admissions process. The forms that make up an admissions packet are impressive, and in addition, almost all require their applicants to take the SSAT, or Secondary School Admission Test. Check out www.ssat.org. It's a similar story at the Catholic high schools, but with a slightly different twist. Most do not require or accept the SSAT, but that's not a hard-and-fast rule. In the Greater Boston area, you must take an Archdiocesan entrance exam, administered in early December by the Scholastic Testing Service, for high school admission the following Fall. If you're considering 7th or 8th grade entry, then a slightly different test is required, at least at some schools.
